Pet Insurance Explained
Pet insurance covers vet bills for illness and injury. Here's the difference between lifetime, annual, and accident-only policies.
Pet insurance covers veterinary costs if your pet is ill or injured. The main types are lifetime cover (a set amount available each policy year, renewing annually for ongoing conditions), time-limited or annual cover (a condition is only covered for a set period, often 12 months, after which it's excluded), and accident-only cover (the cheapest, covering injuries but not illness).
Lifetime policies are generally considered the most robust, since a condition like diabetes or arthritis can require treatment for years — a time-limited policy may stop covering it partway through. Price depends on the pet's species, breed, age, and where you live.
